Sunset
The cold and subtle breeze passes over me
As I ponder on the tall mountain peak
The light breeze against my skin, I feel free
I am so speechless; I can barely speak
The glare that glistens and reaches my eye
The sun that I see, it gladdens all of me
I sit here and listen to the birds cry
Green tree's and blue skies is all that I see
The sun slowly sinks behind the tall tree's
Mixtures of colors flow throughout the skies
Colors as yellow as the bumble bee's
Soaking the moment, I won't close my eyes
I just sit here looking at the sunset
I sit here, and haven't even moved yet
Wind
The Wind
Its breeze makes me ache
Maybe it’s something inside my mind
Telling me that she is a fake
As she hits me in the face
Her teal beauty shown
A gentle voice and my thoughts are erased
She never cast first stone
Her past is like a veil
Know one knows, or has tried
I shall be the first to prevail
If not at least I’ll be beside
The Goddess I love, the wind
And be able to make music for all mankind
This Goddess comes and goes
Embodying the name she quietly owns
Her teal hair swings as it flows
I am changed by her, right through my bones
Truth is known to me and not for you
I know you won’t believe when I say
“The Wind is alive even to this day”
Yellow and brown your skin so tight
Big or little you may come
I look at you and can't help but take a bite
Without your skin you would be a hot dog without its bun
Like a half moon you are shaped
Soft or hard you can be used
You can be eaten raw or bakes
However I rather not eat you if you are bruised
Upside down you grow
On a tree down in Florida like a plum
I'm not sure if you grow in the snow
I will eat you up and there won't be a crumb
Your taste is sweet
Your looks are odd
You make me say yum like a birds says tweet
You don't look anything like a pea with a pod
With a few bites you gone
With a burp I'm full
Tomorrow I will have another probably at dawn
With a rip and a pull
Ode to the Fruity Sun
I cut you open and what do I see,
inside there are shapes, what could you be.
Your different sections come together and look like a sun.
You will be only an orange shell at the time I am done.
When I stare at you, you give off light,
and when I bite you, you bring me delight.
I walk by you almost every day,
and it seems like you just want to scream "HEY."
Your life was chill when you were on the vine.
Now, many people, on you they dine.
I go up to them and say "He's a person too...
what if he was the one snacking on you?!?!"
When I see you, you make my day better,
and for weeks to come, my outlook is brighter.
Some people say "I'd rather look at a daisy."
I yell back "Look at him, dude, your crazy."
So when you walk by this orange delight,
and you and your family are deep in a fight
just take a bite from his fruity center.
It will make your day just a little bit better.
That is well done Katie
Watermelon =p
The blazing sun havering above me
Bare stubbed feet against the ground
My taster buds dry, can't you see
I'm going to nibble on what I found
The sweet drippy taste on my tongue
The firm bottom, ripe and green
It saves me, and I am so young
The soft pink is all i can see
It drips down as I take a bite
My hands are sticky and that's all I want on this hot day
I want another, I just might
The words to describe it I can't even say
The seeds, I spit them out one by one
It saves me from the heat
I never would want a day more fun
The way it looks, tastes, feels, its really neat
Everything about it, all wet and sweet
Makes days like these simply lucious in the heat
Might as well say that the rest of these are going to be good.
I really like yours Katie. Its funny.
MY KIWI LOVE
You have no smell,
But you are oh so good,
To eat.
You are brown and round.
Soft and furry,
Like a puppy dog.
You cry from the bruises,
When roughly handled.
I cut you in half,
And all I see is...
Yummy greenness with,
Little black seeds in a circle.
As I bite into you,
Your juices start to dribble,
Down my little chin.
I eat you and I'm in,
Sweet heaven.
Wanting to savor your,
Sweet, sweet taste.
I also like your's Justin.
Dylan, I really liked the flow of your poem. It sounds very magnificent!
Dylan,
I love your ode it is pretty cool how you approached it.
Banana Dear
Oh banana, your smile is welcoming,
Your skin is yellow with a few brown freckles.
Your smell takes me miles away,
To an unknown tropical island,
Where your bright yellow color reminds me of the shining sun.
Your life, my friend, has been short
But full of excitement
Traveling across the seas
To land in an unknown Wal-mart produce stand.
Where some uman will come along and Take you to their welcoming abode.
Banana dear, did you know that you are hight in nutrients
Such as potassium, magnesium, and vitamin A?
These nutrients help me survive in my daily life.
Your voice 'tis like the wind calling to me,
"Take my nutrients! I've no need for them!"
My dear banana, I know you wont believe me if I said,
I was the one who bought you from
The Wal-mart produce stand.
Awesome poem Katie H. :] very descriptive and makes me think of the sunset.
Teasha,
I love your ode it is awesome.
Nice poem about watermelon Teasha, I love watermelon! :]
katie b, i liked your poem. it was funny how you explained it that way, it was kind of cool.
Katie:
It's very good. there are few things that are misspelled. But your ode makes me want to know what your writing about.
D. Frazier:
I like your ode. Its making me very hungry. And it's quite a mystery as to what you are.
An Ode to the Beginning
She rumbles...
Anxiously awaiting a chance to please.
We all hop in and Cody mumbles,
About school, girls, and Henley's fleas.
She squeals...
As we pull out and fly.
Cold is how the leather feels
While we pray that Old Blue will never die.
She slams...
Into the frozen snowbank,
We press onwards by the beaver dams.
She's only on a half a tank.
She's persistent
Plowing the long cold driveway
You can see her no matter how distant.
She raises our emotions high like a skyway.
She stops...
After her tires autograph the garage floor,
The door hinge pops.
And Julie is still yelling from the house door!
Dylan, I like the flow of your poem. The sound is magnificent!
Tears,
They'll come and go, and some of them may stay
I know heartaches hurt but I swear to you
The day will come when your fears melt away
I know from prior experiences it's true
Some cry over many things that happen
In life it is best to learn how to swirve
Just hold your head high and keep on clappin'
Throw your hands up and just say "I Got Nerve!"
Life isn't always as hard as you think
The tears that come down are for the moment
Life goes by fast so I'll say please don't blink
me ode.... doesn't really have a title. i'm working on it. any suggestion, anyone?
anyway, here it is....
It starts with one voice, like morning dew
Then grows louder, as confidence unfolds
A second voice joins, in a danse รก deux
They suit each other, like silver and gold
Another voice rings out, and another
And more, soon the whole world will be singing
Come out of your shell, and sing with your brothers
On these golden notes I’ll be winging
Music rises, music falls, lilting beat,
Many melodies, one song,
This golden chorus, the fabric of bliss
These notes are my wings, it’s here I belong
This melody of life, a
Powerful fantasia, play it for me
Loud and strong, appassionata
Crescendo, crescendo, set the notes free
All the voices then stop, all but the two
Silver and gold, sunlight and morning dew,
Still dancing their dance, then gold fades away,
Silver still singing one last note to remain.
Tears,
They'll come and go, and some of them may stay
I know heartaches hurt but I swear to you
The day will come when your fears melt away
I know from prior experiences it's true
Some cry over many things that happen
In life it is best to learn how to swirve
Just hold your head high and keep on clappin'
Throw your hands up and just say "I Got Nerve!"
Life isn't always as hard as you think
The tears that come down are for the moment
Life goes by fast so I'll say please don't blink
Teasha, Your poem is good. I like the imagery in it. Thanks for writing a great poem.
Justin, I liked you ode. It was very interesting
Teasha, your ode was refreshing...it gave me the feeling of summer and watermelon! =)
Mountain Dew
I’m hooked for good on your bubbly goodness.
Your really sweet citrus tastes like heaven.
There could never be any wickedness.
I could keep drinking after eleven
Of you down my throat do slide while crackling
Your caffeine will keep me up for long times.
A best friend is what you are on hot days.
With you, it’s so easy to go tackling
Anything and I can turn on a dime.
Without you, I would live life in a daze.
Where are all the places that you have seen?
Who are all the people that you have met?
Would you taste good if eaten with a bean?
Have you realized that you’re amazing yet?
I would bet that you are the most popular soda
On the face of the earth and in the universe.
The diet version of you isn’t bad either.
I would even drink you in a Toyota.
You could never do anything as worse
As a curse so calm down and take a breather.
Kiwi, Oh Sweet Kiwi
Your sweet and sour taste lingers in my mouth
I chose you today over all the rest
you are indeed, fuzzy, like a mouse
You in my tummy, there's no contest
You taste so good and divine
You are my favorite fruit
And you're better than a clementine
Better looking than a newt!
I could write about you all day
Though my hand would get tired
The word to express you I cannot say
Because then I would get fired!
So farewell kiwi,
Until our next run-in
Just be careful now,
Because all the kids are comin'
~Sarah
You rushed in my life like a wave
I would never want it any other way
You fill the deep aching cave
I wish I knew all the words to say
There's something to be said for love
I know I have fallen for you
Your hand fits with mine like a glove
It is utterly and undeniably true
Not everything you do is right
I am guilty of that myself
Together we can fight
We can be better than anyone else
I know with you I will try
Our love will not be made of a single lie
Katie's sonnet about the banana made me laugh.
It is creative and I like the last line where it talks about how there will be another rip and a pull tomorrow.
Kitty!
The dark rich color of black
The call of the wild beast as he runs.
It’s powerful legs flexing for the attack
Fast it attacks the prey, getting ready to have fun.
The cat playfully bats the furry, blue mouse.
Grinning in his own kitty like way
Running all around, chasing, and playing around the house.
To where his fun now lay.
Cradling his prize in his two furry paws
Smiling with all his pure kitty glee
Then yawning opening his jaws
Then biting at a lone flee
Oh, kitty, what would I do without all your cuteness
Everything about you is adorable and sweet
With all your fluffiness.
There is the opening of a door, you go over to meet.
Look who its it! Mom is home from work.
She says “Oh, Kitty, you are so sweet!”
The cat walks past the dog with a smirk.
It was time to eat.
I love the name of Dylan's sonnet. Ode to the fruity sun is just a funny title.
When I see you, you make my day better,
and for weeks to come, my outlook is brighter.
Some people say "I'd rather look at a daisy."
I yell back "Look at him, dude, your crazy."
That is my favorite part of the sonnet, it is wicked funny.
Austin - "tires autographing the garage floor" - what an original, yet vivid line! Great job on your use of personification.
Brenna - All of the titles I could think of do not have the melody your poem requires.
Is there a musical expression for day? Or what about a musical note - is there a pretty way to say whole note?
It feels like it needs a music word and alas, that is one area where my vocabulary is certainly lacking.
